Joseph M. Glickstein, Jr., saved Marjorie E. Lawler from drowning, Neptune Beach, Florida, July 12, 1943. While wading in the Atlantic Ocean, Miss Lawler, 20, and her sister lost their footing and drifted into water beyond their depth. There were breakers two and a half feet high 150 feet from shore and a strong surface current that crossed an undercurrent. Joseph waded from shore and swam 220 feet to the sister, supported her momentarily, and then turned her over to another boy who had swum out. That boy took Dorothy to shore. Joseph swam 20 feet farther to Miss Lawler, and she grasped him around the neck. After a struggle, during which they were twice submerged, Joseph got hold of Miss Lawler and swam with difficulty 250 feet to wadable water. Miss Lawler was limp but was revived. 39918-3344
