Joseph Nemeth attempted to save Irwin H. Ziegler and Harry Fatzinger from suffocation, Allentown, Pennsylvania, June 7, 1915. (See case of IRWIN H. ZIEGLER.) Nemeth, 28, laborer, was among other men that were attracted to the scene, and he reached the cesspool after Ziegler was overcome. Nemeth put one foot in a loop in a rope and was lowered into the cesspool without being tied. He held to the rope with one hand and grasped Ziegler’s arm with his other hand. The gas affected him, and he called to be hoisted, but he was overcome and fell off the rope before he reached the top of the cesspool. He was taken out about five minutes later and was revived. 15519-1117
