Joseph P. Herlihy, 17, printer’s apprentice, saved John J. Noone, 8, schoolboy, from drowning, Chelsea, Massachusetts, January 22, 1911. Joseph ran and crawled 136 feet over the ice on Snake Creek toward John, who had broken through into water seven feet deep. When he was seven feet from the hole, he broke through the ice and then swam to John, breaking the thin ice before him. He grasped John’s coat and supported him until a man approached with a board and took John from the water. Another man brought a board and assisted Joseph from the water. 6101-590
