Joseph W. Schinider saved Linda L. and Yasaine H. Ali from burning, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, December 1, 1984. Fire broke out on the second floor of a building which housed an apartment occupied by Mrs. Ali, 34, and her daughter, Yasmine, 1. Schmider, 29, baker, alerted to the fire, entered the building’s first floor and crawled upstairs to look for occupants. Flames were scattered throughout the second- floor hall, which was filled with dense smoke. After calling to see if anyone was inside and receiving no reply, Schmider returned downstairs. Mrs. Ali awakened and, upon seeing the hallway in flames, screamed for help. Schmider heard her cries, again crawled up the stairs, and ran through the burning hallway to the door of Mrs. Ali’s apartment. Entering, he took Yasmine in his arms and guided Mrs. Ali through the apartment to a fire escape and then to safety. 60757-7054
