Josephine E. Strickler attempted to save Frances E. Albrecht from drowning, Yoakum, Texas, June 12, 1922. Frances, 16, who could not swim, dived into a swimming pool where the water was seven feet deep. She threshed and called for help. Josephine, 13, schoolgirl, who was a poor swimmer, swam 35 feet to Frances and extended a hand to her. Frances pulled Josephine to her and climbed on her back, forcing Josephine under the water. Josephine swallowed water and was helpless. A young man then entered the water, separated the girls, and took them to the wall of the pool, one at a time. 25182-1980
