Juan H. Moore, 17, student, attempted to rescue J. Arnold Worthington, 25, school principal, from burning, Albion, Idaho, August 16, 1928. Worthington and Juan were in a pasture, and Worthington set fire to cut thistle that was lying three inches deep over an area 75 feet square. Worthington’s clothing was encrusted with a highly inflammable deposit left by a weed spray, and his clothing caught fire. Despite his own clothing carrying some of the weed-spray deposit, Juan ran to Worthington and pulled several burning pieces of clothing from him. Juan’s clothing caught fire, and he tore it off. All Worthington wore except his boots was burned off him. He died as the result of his burns two weeks later. Juan was seriously but not fatally burned. 28696-2388
