Karen K. Edwards saved Eugene Taylor from drowning, Duncansville, Pennsylvania, June 17, 1972. When his 10-year-old son, a non-swimmer, got into deep water in a swimming pool, Taylor, 37, truckdriver, jumped into the water even though he could not swim. He went under and did not return to the surface. Karen, 13, was urged by her parents to give aid since she was the best swimmer present. She dived into the water and, after towing the 10-year-old boy to where others were able to lift him out, swam to where Taylor was floating inert below the surface 13 feet from the side of the pool. Karen brought Taylor to the surface and towed him six feet. Taylor revived briefly and broke from her grasp. She regained her hold but by then was nearly exhausted. A chair was extended to Karen. She grasped it and was pulled to the side of the pool along with Taylor, who then was revived. 52772-5966
