Kevin Scott Stroble helped to save Mary L. McPherson from burning, Fallston, Maryland, August 7, 1985. Seven months pregnant, Mrs. McPherson, 27, was trapped in her burning car after a highway accident involving two trucks. Working nearby, Stroble, 26, masonry contractor, ran to the car, where he and another man tried, unsuccessfully, to pull Mrs. McPherson through the broken window of the car’s jammed driver’s door as flames issued along that side of the car. Stroble then went to the passenger door and pulled on the window frame, breaking the glass. With flames inside the car, Stroble and a third man reached through the window and pulled Mrs. McPherson out as the other man pushed from the driver’s side. Stroble and the other men then carried Mrs. McPherson to safety moments before the interior of the car was engulfed in flames. Mrs. McPherson recovered from cuts and bruises and a month later gave birth to a healthy baby boy. 60764-7015
