L. Earl Rader, 39, still man, sustained fatal injuries attempting to save Patrick P. Dwyer, 44, pumper, from burning, Warren, Pennsylvania, June 7, 1924. Dwyer broke through the covering of a tank containing hot oil, 5.5 feet deep, and fell into the oil. Rader got on top of the tank, which was eight feet deep, to aid Dwyer, but he also broke through. Dwyer supported himself at a post in the center of the tank, and Rader held to the side of the tank until other men arrived and drew them out. Dwyer died the following day and Rader a day later from burns. 24323-1949
