Larry Paul Petrick helped to save Paul G. Titmuss from burning, Williamston, Michigan, January 30, 1979. When the police patrol car he was driving veered from the highway at night and crashed into a tree, Titmuss was severely injured and unable to get out of the vehicle, on which flames appeared at the front end. Petrick, 32, truckdriver, made his way through deep snow surrounding the patrol car and joined another truckdriver who had gone to the vehicle to give aid. Petrick and the other driver reached through a broken window, grasped Titmuss, and pulled him through the window opening into the snow, which made it difficult to move him away from the burning vehicle. Ammunition in the patrol car began exploding. The vehicle was totally afire by the time the men reached the highway, Titmuss had not sustained any burns but was hospitalized for injuries suffered in the accident.
