Laurence S. Case, 16, laborer, died attempting to save Williamina M. Bowen, 16, from drowning, Brewster, Washington, June 30, 1929. While swimming in the Columbia River where there was a slight eddy, Williamina became distressed. Laurence swam eight feet to her, but she drifted away from him and began to sink. Laurence swam five feet toward her and went under the surface at the point she was sinking. Neither reappeared, and both were drowned.
