Lawrence Alan Schwartz helped to save Peuo Tuy and Pil Lunn from drowning, Lowell, Massachusetts, May 28, 1990. When Peuo, 11, a non-swimmer, fell 12 feet from the top of a wall into the Pawtucket Canal and called for help, her cousin, Pil, 13, jumped in after her. They struggled in the water, submerging, and called for help. From nearby, Schwartz, 37, jewelry store manager, saw the situation, ran to a point on the wall near the children, and jumped into the canal after them. Peuo and Pil grasped Schwartz, submerging him. As they then clung to him, Schwartz, with difficulty, aneuvered back to the wall, to which he maintained a hold. Rescue personnel arrived with a hook and rope, which they used to lift Peuo, Pil, and Schwartz, one at a time, to the top of the wall. Peuo, Pil, and Schwartz sustained minor cuts, from which they recovered.
