Lee Wilson Danley, 16, schoolboy, rescued Harry B. Kimmel, 17, schoolboy, from an enraged bull, West Finley, Pennsylvania, July 19, 1943. When Harry in a barnyard attempted to drive a bull, it charged and tossed him 15 feet. He was stunned and lay face down, and the bull continued to butt him. Lee, who had accompanied Harry and had seen the bull charge at a steer a moment earlier, ran 20 feet to it and with a manure-fork repeatedly jabbed its head. The bull backed four feet from Harry, who then crawled to a point 10 feet from it. Thinking the bull, which was facing him with lowered head, was about to attack him, Lee dropped the fork and ran; and the bull chased him. Lee ran through a stable, the bull being five feet behind him; and he vaulted over a gate into a pasture, having run 70 feet. The bull collided with the gate and then walked away. Harry meanwhile ran to an exit and out of the barnyard. He suffered from soreness but recovered. 39944-3346
