Lemuel R. Brigman, 20, student, saved Francis A. Hock, 2, from drowning, Coney Island, Ohio, August 4, 1905. At night, Francis fell into a cistern that had been unused for so long a time that no one knew what it was. Overcoming efforts to prevent him, Brigman dropped into the dark hole and, under 6 feet of water, found Francis on the bottom, which was 14 feet from the surface of the ground. A rope was brought 5 minutes later, and both were drawn up. 763-170
