Leonard Belcher saved Judy C. Dowdell from assault, New Orleans, Louisiana, August 27, 1993. While on duty, Ms. Dowdell, 46, police officer, was assaulted by a woman who cut Ms. Dowdell’s neck with glass from a broken bottle. During an ensuing struggle, the assailant struck Ms. Dowdell repeatedly and grasped her service revolver. Belcher, 58, witnessed the assault from where he was seated on a bench nearby. Although he was disabled and required the use of a cane, Belcher approached the assailant and released the gun from her grasp. He ten helped Ms. Dowdell restrain the assailant until another officer arrived shortly and took the assailant into custody. Ms. Dowdell required hospital treatment for her injuries. 68274-7866
