Leonard M. Dew saved Joe L. Hutcherson from being killed by a train, Curve, Tennessee, June 2, 1933. Joe, 8, walked onto a track on which a train was approaching at a speed of 35 m.p.h. and stood terror stricken between the rails. Dew, 27, farmer, ran 34 feet to Joe, reaching him when the locomotive was 25 feet from them. He grasped Joe under the arms and continued across the track, half carrying and half dragging Joe in front of him. He was five feet from the rail when the front of the locomotive passed at unreduced speed. 33166-2812
