Leslie J. Beitelspacher rescued Richard H. Miller from assault, Bismarck, North Dakota, January 19, 1994. Miller, 70, was in his office at a housing complex conversing with Beitelspacher, 44, maintenance supervisor, when an enraged man entered the office. The man struck Miller in the head, drawing blood and rendering him unconscious. Beitelspacher rushed to a point between Miller and the assailant to shield Miller with his own body. The assailant, who outweighed Beitelspacher by 75 pounds, struggled with Beitelspacher, striking him repeatedly in attempts to resume attacking Miller. When police arrived, the assailant threatened them and had to be subdued before he could be arrested. Miller required hospitalization for treatment of head injuries and cuts. Beitelspacher also required hospital treatment, for a head injury and cuts, which required sutures, and he recovered. 68767-7870
