Lester C. Dunham saved Janice B. McMahon, 12, and died attempting to save Dolores Clifton, 11, from drowning, Pulaski, Michigan, March 12, 1924. Lester, 11, schoolboy, who could not swim, ran 30 feet on the ice and then crawled 10 feet to Janice. Grasping her hands, he arose and pulled her from the hole and 12 feet nearer the bank. He then crawled to Dolores and grasped her hand. The ice broke under him, and he and Dolores were drowned. (See case of JANICE B. MCMAHON.) 24125-2115
