Lisa V. Schichko helped to save Robert L. Romanacce from drowning, Kings Park, New York, July 13, 1971. While wading in Long Island Sound, Robert, 13, got into water beyond his depth and called for help. Although a poor swimmer, Lisa, 17, student, waded and swam 20 feet to Robert, who outweighed her slightly. He took hold of her shoulders; and she attempted to swim shoreward but was unable to do so because of an undercurrent. Lisa was submerged briefly twice and tired rapidly from her efforts to tow Robert. Having regained his strength, Robert then released Lisa and managed to swim to wadable water. Lisa, too fatigued to swim shoreward, was submerged briefly again and then lost consciousness. She was taken aboard a passing motorboat and removed to shore, where she revived.
