Lloyd A. T. Anderson, 16, student, died attempting to save Richard A. Moeller, 18, machinist’s apprentice, from drowning, Alameda, California, July 1, 1923. While Moeller, Lloyd, and two other boys were sailing in Oakland Inner Harbor, their boat capsized, and they were thrown into deep water 375 feet from the shore. Saying he would aid Moeller, who could not swim, Lloyd swam seven feet to him. The other two boys reached the boat, but Lloyd and Moeller sank, with Moeller’s arm around Lloyd’s neck. Both were drowned. 23902-2093
