Lottie C. Steen, 14, schoolgirl, died attempting to save George R. Sehlin, 9, from being killed by a train, Dale, Minnesota, May 21, 1918. George attempted to cross a track in front of a passenger train to join Lottie, who was on the opposite side of the track, and he tripped and fell in the middle of the track. The train was approaching at a speed of 45 m.p.h. Lottie stepped close to the track and leaned forward toward George, reaching out her hand, but before she could grasp him, the train struck and instantly killed both of them. 18881-1547
