Lucille Babcock rescued a woman from assault, Little Rock, Arkansas, July 29, 1987. A 22-year-old woman screamed as she was being assaulted by a man outside her home. Miss Babcock, 65, writer, saw the assault from her nearby apartment. Although she was disabled, requiring back and leg braces, Miss Babcock approached the assailant and beat him with her cane. The assailant then turned on Miss Babcock, allowing the younger woman to escape. The assailant struck Miss Babcock, then fled. Men in the neighborhood captured the assailant and held him for police. The younger woman was treated for multiple injuries, and she recovered. Miss Babcock recovered from exhaustion.
