Ludwig Raepple helped to save David D. Williams from drowning, St. George, Ontario, February 1, 1972. Raepple, 45, masonry contractor, saw David, 3, bobbing in deep water in a hole in an ice-covered farm pond. Crawling to the hole, Raepple found he could not reach David. He lowered himself into the water and swam to the boy. After towing David to the edge of the hole, Raepple called for help in getting out. Both Raepple and David were submerged once before the latter’s grandmother arrived and crawled to the hole. She took David to the bank and thumped him on the back until he resumed breathing, after which she crawled back to the hole and aided Raepple in climbing out
