Luella Ruth Scott, 21, student nurse, died attempting to save Hazel I. Houck, 19, from drowning, Prescott, Michigan, June 18, 1929. While wading in Cranberry Lake, Miss Houck, who could not swim, stepped into deep water 25 feet from the bank. Miss Scott, who could swim little, if any, was wading in neck-deep water 10 feet from her. She took a step toward Miss Houck with extended hand and went under the surface.
