Lynn B. Fisk, 20, school teacher, helped to save Victor M. Cross, 20, farmer, from drowning, Gerry, New York, June 7, 1908. Cross had lost a plank while in the Cassadaga Creek and could not swim. He sunk in deep water 30 feet from the bank. A man swam to Cross and they grasped each other, but the man made little progress. Fisk swam to them and took Cross from the first rescuer, who was exhausted. Though Cross grabbed him by an ankle, Fisk succeeded in swimming with him 40 feet to shallow water and dragged him to the bank, where he was compelled to lie down, much fatigued. The other man was too exhausted to reach shore and was drowned. 5076-442
