M. Elizabeth Ball, 17, student, died attempting to save Elizabeth Plant, 17, from drowning, Buckeystown, Maryland, July 13, 1920. Miss Plant got into deep water while bathing in the Monocacy River. Miss Ball swam 65 feet to her, but Miss Plant grasped her shoulders from behind, causing Miss Ball to sink under the surface. Miss Ball swam one or two strokes toward the bank with Miss Plant, who tightened her grasp around Miss Ball’s neck, and both sank and were drowned. 20568-1656
