Marc D. Williams, 10, schoolboy, saved Richard L. Ferris, 3, from drowning, Leesburg, Florida, October 12, 1958. While playing with two other children beside a small artificial lake, Richard waded into the water after his dog and stepped off a ledge into water six feet deep, where he was submerged intermittently as he flailed his arms wildly. Marc, who weighed only 20 pounds more than Richard, was attracted from his home nearby. He ran 65 feet to the lake, dived fully clothed into the water, and swam 15 feet to Richard, who then was in water 10 feet deep. As Richard again submerged, Marc took hold of his arm and lifted him to the surface. Richard grasped Marc around the waist. Maintaining his hold on Richard, Marc towed him back to the bank with effort, his swimming impeded by his watersoaked clothing
