Marc Drillick saved Masha Hane and helped to save Henry Hane and Beatriz A. de Hernandez from drowning, Coconut Grove, Florida, March 26, 1983. Mrs. Hane, 64, Henry, 1, and Miss de Hernandez, 60, were trapped in a car that was submerging in 15 feet of murky water in a yacht basin. Drillick, 24, marine mechanic, swam to the car and submerged twice in vain attempts to open its driver’s door. Surfacing, he caught a hammer that was thrown to him. He submerged again and, with the hammer, broke the car’s rear window. After Drillick pulled Mrs. Hane from the car, a man surfaced with Miss de Hernandez and Henry, who were taken to safety by him and another man. Drillick swam to safety with Mrs. Hane, who was hospitalized for three days. She, Henry, and Miss de Hernandez all recovered.
