Marcel C. Swift, 18, student, attempted to save Foster O. Teutsch, 29, farmer, from drowning, Hamilton, Indiana, July 29, 1917. Teutsch dived from a dock into Hamilton Lake, became distressed, and called for help. Swift swam 25 feet to Teutsch, and they caught hold of each other and went under the surface. Swift broke Teutsch’s hold, retained his hold on Teutsch, rose, and swam a few feet toward the dock. Swift and Teutsch then went under the surface again. Swift put his arm around Teutsch, rose, and swam two or three feet nearer to the dock. Teutsch again took hold of Swift, and their legs became entangled, and they went under the surface again. Swift jerked away from Teutsch, pushed him upward, rose, and then swam to the dock. Teutsch was rescued by a man in a boat. 18269-1542
