Margaret L. Oswald, 12, schoolgirl, attempted to save Thomas F. Eynon, Jr., 9, from drowning, Orson, Pennsylvania, August 7, 1920. At a point 45 feet from the bank in Coxtown Pond, Thomas let down to touch, but the water was nine feet deep, and he lost control of himself. Margaret swam 25 feet to Thomas, but he threw both arms around her neck, and they sank. Margaret rose momentarily and attempted to free herself, but Thomas climbed upon her back and kept her under water. She started to swim under water toward the bank and had progressed about six feet when Thomas’s father reached them, caused Thomas to release his hold, and pushed him to wadable water. Margaret then swam unaided to wadable water. 21038-1849
