Marguerite A. Fitch died attempting to save Edwin H. Juett fom drowning, St. Simons Island, Georgia, May 30, 1920. Juett, 50, salesman, held to a canoe, which Miss Fitch, 32, stenographer, and another young woman paddled 150 feet from shore in St. Simon Sound, where the water was 15 feet deep. The water was rough, and there was a strong current. The two young women turned toward shore, expecting Juett to follow, but they were rushed toward shore by a wave, and when they reached shore, they heard him call for help. Miss Fitch waded and swam 125 feet to within 50 feet of Juett, who had drifted farther from shore. He sank and was drowned, and Miss Fitch, who turned on her back in a floating position, was carried to a point 400 feet from shore and also drowned. 21097-1763
