Marianne R. Coleman helped to save Richard G. Bennett from burning, Greece, New York, November 12, 1985. Bennett, 26, was rendered unconscious when his car crashed into a tree at night. Flames broke out in the engine area and soon entered the interior of the car under the dashboard. Driving nearby, Mrs. Coleman, 26, medical secretary, stopped at the scene of the accident and ran to the burning car, as did her husband. After her husband saved a passenger from the other side of the car, Mrs. Coleman reached through the opened driver’s window and held Bennett’s head away from the flames as her husband dislodged Bennett’s legs from the wreckage. Mrs. Coleman and her husband then pulled Bennett through the window. After they had dragged him a few feet away, flames quickly filled the car’s interior. Bennett suffered multiple injuries as a result of the crash. Mrs. Coleman recovered from minor smoke inhalation.
