Marilyn M. Hittelman rescued D. Oliver Paule from burning, Encino, California, May 6, 1970. When his two-door sedan was involved in a highway accident, Paule, 32, insurance salesman, was injured and knocked unconscious. Fire broke out around the front end of the automobile. Mrs. Hittelman, 32, housewife, ran to the sedan and tried the door as flames appeared inside the vehicle. After a man had aided her in opening the door, Mrs. Hittelman climbed into the sedan. She took hold of Paule and pulled him to the doorway as she backed out of the vehicle. The man aided her in setting Paule on the pavement; and another man assisted them in moving him away from the burning sedan. Paule was hospitalized for injuries and burns; Mrs. Hittelman was treated for smoke inhalation. Both recovered.
