Marion Greiner, 17, factoryhand, saved Lora Madon, 10, from drowning, Plattsburg, New York, May 1, 1911. Lora fell down a steep, 20-foot bank into the Saranac River, where the water was over 10 feet deep. Although she was fully dressed and the water was very cold, Marion ran 60 feet, scrambled down the bank, jumped into the water, and swam to the child. Lora was then nine feet from the bank, and when Marion grasped her, both went beneath the surface. When they came up, Marion put her left arm around Lora and swam 25 feet downstream with her to a point on the bank where she could make a landing. 6560-656
