Marion H. Taylor, 44, stillman, saved John M. Cochran, 49, still cleaner, from suffocation, Lawrenceville, Illinois, July 11, 1923. (See case of G. FRANKLIN JUDY.) Taylor arrived at the still as Murphy was being helped out. Another man having refused to enter, Taylor descended, taking no precaution except to hold his breath. A rope was lowered to him, and Taylor tied it around Cochran’s neck. Taylor was overcome just as he was about to ascend the ladder. Cochran was drawn up, and Taylor was taken out after a man with a rope around himself had descended and put a rope on Taylor. Taylor was unconscious for more than six hours and was severely burned from contact with steampipes, but he recovered. 23711-1879
