Mark A. Nelson, 9, schoolboy, saved Agnes C. Anderson, 21, from drowning, Stillwater, Minnesota, August 11, 1911. Miss Anderson, who was a very poor swimmer, became distressed in water 10 feet deep 25 feet from the bank of Lily Lake. Another woman swam a few feet to her from a float, and Miss Anderson grasped her and pulled her beneath the surface twice. The woman freed herself and swam toward the float. Mark, who weighed half as much as Miss Anderson, was on the float. He had been learning to swim for a week. He dived and reached Miss Anderson about five feet from the float. He grasped the back of the collar of her bathing suit and swam about 10 feet with her. Women then waded out from the bank and helped him in getting Miss Anderson to the bank. 7196-1150
