Mary E. Gosnell died attempting to save Pamela B. Davis from drowning, Portersville, Pennsylvania, August 16, 1980. Pamela, 8, fell into Slippery Rock Creek, where the swift current carried her downstream. Mrs. Gosnell, 37, bookkeeper, jumped in and also was caught by the current. Both were swept downstream amid exposed and submerged boulders. Pamela was carried to the gate of a dam, from where she was aided in getting out of the water. Mrs. Gosnell, carried over the dam, drowned.
