Mary S. Wilson rescued Deanna M. Torres from assault, Lakewood, California, July 17, 1985. Miss Torres, 21, was fleeing in an alley from a man aiming a double-barreled shotgun at her. Mrs. Wilson, 32, secretary, witnessed the scene from her car when she turned into the alley. Driving past the gunman, Mrs. Wilson, who was accompanied by her daughter, stopped her car beside Miss Torres just as the gunman fired, striking Miss Torres in the back, neck, and head. Mrs. Wilson and her daughter aided the wounded woman into the back seat of their car as the gunman fired a second time, hitting the car. Mrs. Wilson rushed Miss Torres to a hospital, where she was treated for her wounds.
