Michael Albanito, 49, invalid, saved J. Earl Woodford, 7, from drowning, Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, June 21, 1946. Earl fell into flooded Elk Run and drifted in water four feet deep in a current of two m.p.h. Albanito, who suffered from a serious heart ailment, ran 150 feet to the bank, jumped eight feet into the water, and groped with his hands for Earl, who drifted against him. Albanito carried him up a steep bank, where a man relieved him of Earl. Albanito suffered a heart attack as the result of his act and was confined to bed for 40 days.
