Michael Anthony Terry died attempting to save Terrisa M. Voepel from drowning, Charleston, Oregon, June 3, 1972. While frolicking in the Pacific Ocean, Terrisa, 12, was caught by a strong current and carried away from shore. She called for help. Terry, 26, x-ray technician, entered the water and, swimming through breakers, reached Terrisa, who then was 100 feet from shore. Terry was carried farther seaward; and he drowned, as did two brothers who attempted to aid Terrisa before a coastguardsman reached her and supported her until a boat arrived.
