Michael E. Blystone died attempting to save Russell M. Crisovan from suffocation, Saline, Michigan, July 2, 1975. On his farm, Crisovan, 50, fell into an open catch pit 16 feet deep which contained waste matter from a cow barn and in which the air contained hydrogen sulfide. Blystone, 21, septic tank cleaner, entered the pit, where the liquid matter was eight feet deep and where he attempted to keep Crisovan afloat. Both then sank beneath the surface. When removed by men with rescue aids, Crisovan and Blystone were dead.
