Michael F. Ponty helped to rescue Marko Shehovac from assault, Salmon Arm, British Columbia, October 31, 1995. Shehovac, 41, a police officer, was attempting to arrest a youth in the jewelry store owned by Ponty, 33, when the youth struggled against him aggressively. Ponty called for police backup, then joined in the struggle, during which the assailant obtained Shehovac’s gun and pointed it at Shehovac. Ponty grasped the gun and pushed it away just before it fired. Two other officers then arrived and apprehended the assailant. Ponty sustained minor powder burns to his hand, from which he recovered.
