Michael J. Delehant died attempting to save Viola S. Ferguson from drowning, Raquette Lake, New York, July 7, 1926. While Viola, 17, was swimming in deep water in Raquette Lake, she lost self-control and called for help. Delehant, 33, watch repairer, fully clothed, swam 30 feet to her. As he took hold of her with one arm, she grasped him around the neck with both arms. He struggled and called for help, but both sank. Men in a canoe drew Viola to the surface with a pike-pole, and she was revived. Delehant was drowned. 26421-2097
