Michael J. Duffy, 55, special officer, died attempting to save Emma C. Conklin, 67, from being run over by a train, Hallstead, Pennsylvania, January 11, 1909. Duffy shouted a warning to Mrs. Conklin, who had started across the track ahead of a train running 60 m.p.h. Rushing 35 feet across two tracks, he approached her with arms extended as if to push her forward. She cleared the track, but Duffy was struck by the engine and killed. 3209-317
