Michael Jorn Winther helped to save Rodney H. Webb, Jr. from drowning, Salisbury, Connecticut, February 6, 1980. Webb, 24, broke through ice on Lake Wononskopomuc and, unable to climb out because the ice kept breaking off, clung to the edge of the hole. Michael, 17, high-school student, and another student crawled to Webb. With the other student holding his feet, Michael grasped Webb’s hands and pulled him onto the ice, from where they aided him to safety.
