Michael S. Simon died attempting to save Alan Dale Grasley from drowning, Bucyrus, Ohio, March 12, 1933. Alan, 13, broke through ice at a point 30 feet from the bank of a cove of the old municipal reservoir, and his companions called for help as he tried to climb out of the water. Michael, 15, schoolboy, who was heavily clothed and was unfamiliar with conditions, ran 225 feet on the ice from the opposite bank of the reservoir and then broke through into water 12 feet deep. With much effort he climbed out of the hole and then crawled 10 feet farther toward Alan. He then walked 15 feet toward the cove and again broke through. He was briefly submerged, threshed wildly, and then sank and was drowned. Meanwhile Alan climbed upon the ice and ran to the bank of the cove. 32907-2799
