Michael Stuckey died after rescuing Susie Sloan from assault, San Francisco, California, December 20, 1993. While walking on a sidewalk, Ms. Sloan, 32, was approached by a man who threatened her with a knife then stabbed her repeatedly. As they struggled, a motorist, Stuckey, 23, computer programmer, got out of his car and approached. He shouted at the assailant to leave Ms. Sloan alone then stepped between them. The assailant grasped Stuckey, then stabbed him in the chest and fled. Ms. Sloan and Stuckey were taken to the hospital, where Ms. Sloan was detained overnight for treatment of her wounds. Stuckey died of his wound within hours of the assault.
