Morris Raymond Allen saved Luther Thompson from burning, Locke, New York, April 10, 1975. Thompson, 56, was driving a tractor-trailer loaded with gasoline when the sections of the rig separated and the tractor ended up in the parking lot of a bank into which the trailer section had crashed, causing extensive damage. Thompson, injured and dazed, remained in the tractor cab while gasoline from the ruptured trailer poured into the street. Allen., 49, farm laborer, waded through the gasoline to the tractor. Just after Allen had pulled Thompson from the cab, the gasoline flowing in the street ignited. The flames rose as much as 75 feet and eventually set fire to the tractor. Allen suffered a leg burn as the result of gasoline on his clothing catching fire. Thompson was not burned but was treated at a hospital for his injuries. 54568-6166
