Murray Roy Biggar, 14, schoolboy, saved Patrick C. Dickson, 11, from drowning, Trenton, Nova Scotia, August 1, 1965. While fishing from a large boulder in Northumberland Strait 20 feet from Roy’s Island, Patrick lost his footing and fell into water eight feet deep. Unable to swim he flailed wildly as he bobbed up and down. Murray, who also was fishing from the boulder, jumped into the water. He swam five feet to Patrick, who was slightly larger and heavier than he. Patrick grasped Murray’s shoulders and attempted to climb onto him. Murray was forced beneath the surface, where he broke away from Patrick. Submerging to the bottom, he pushed himself upward and surfaced behind Patrick. By a series of pushes, Murray moved Patrick five feet to the boulder, where others aided him out of the water.
