Myron E. Watson, 40, tannery foreman, saved Reynold O. Ross, Jr., 8, from drowning, Clinton, Maine, May 2, 1955. Reynold, who could not swim, fell into deep water in the Sebasticook River, lost consciousness, and drifted 50 feet from the bank in a current of four m.p.h. The water was cold, and the river-bed was strewn with numerous large boulders. Alighting from an automobile, Watson ran to the bank, removed only his shoes, and entered the water. Frequently brushing against submerged boulders, he waded and swam 70 feet at an angle to the current and overtook Reynold. They drifted 150 feet, Watson in that distance towing Reynold to wadable water 10 feet from the bank just upstream from the mouth of a swiftly moving brook. Struggling to his feet, Watson carried Reynold to the bank and gave him artificial respiration for more than 10 minutes. Reynold later regained consciousness. Watson was tired, winded, and nervous. Both recovered. 43464-4027
